Open Shower Primary Bath
Anderson, South Carolina
Ahead of Its Time in Accessible Design
Designed by Kerl Design, this project showcases accessible shower design before it became a trend. Completed nearly 10 years ago for a residence in Anderson, SC, the goal was to create an open-air shower without glass surrounds—bright, airy, and effortless to maintain. The client desired a fresh, inviting bath that allowed light and air to circulate freely, eliminating mold and mildew issues common in enclosed showers.
Transforming a Dark, Dated Space
The existing shower was boxed in by walls and a heavy glass door, leaving it dark and damp. We removed the oversized garden tub and replaced it with a sleek, glass-free shower design. A large privacy-glazed vinyl window floods the space with natural light, balancing privacy with openness.
Functional Luxury for Every Age
A partial wall with center pillar conceals plumbing while containing spray. Wall-mounted body jets, a ceiling rain head, and an additional showerhead offer multiple experiences. With a zero-entry threshold and removable teak bench, this accessible bathroom design accommodates all ages and abilities.
Timeless Materials and Clean Detailing
Nested drawers maintain the vanity’s streamlined look while maximizing storage. Tower cabinets add vertical interest and convenience. Contrasting tiles introduce texture and depth, ensuring the space remains fresh and functional—a hallmark of Kerl Design’s luxury bathroom remodeling expertise.
