Beewell Honey Farm Whole House Design

Pickens, South Carolina

A Classic Farmhouse with Southern Charm

This project involved the design of a private residence located on the Beewell Honey Farm in Pickens, SC. The clients wanted a classic farmhouse with a large front porch perfect for afternoon breaks sipping iced tea in heirloom rockers. A large “shot gun” foyer greets guests with a traditional open stair and views through the home to the centered French glass doors. A spacious living room with wood burning fireplace provides a cozy gathering space that is open to the large family style kitchen.

Farm-Fresh Kitchen at the Heart of the Home

Crisp white walls provide the perfect backdrop for the natural heart pine flooring, classic shaker style cabinetry, open shelving for freshly canned preserves and a meticulously organized pantry cabinet equipped with all the tools needed for an honest, organic farm. A central island provides the perfect worksurface for canning, jarring, baking and sharing the bounty of the land with friends and family.

Black Accents and Functional Storage

Black stainless-steel appliances including a gas cooktop, double wall ovens, a dishwasher and a French door refrigerator provide just the right amount of contrast and coordinate nicely with the black cabinet cup pulls, matte black pull-down kitchen faucet, and black metal light fixtures. The cabinets are filled with space-saving inserts, thoughtfully located drawers and more than enough storage for a working family farm. Meals can be shared at the island where counter height seating welcomes visitors to gather and participate in the preparation of meals or the celebrations of life. An informal dining room with ample windows for an abundance of sunlight sits to the side of the kitchen serving as an extension of this lively entertaining space.

Comfortable Living Spaces with Timeless Appeal

The remainder of the house includes a spacious mud room and laundry room, primary suite on the main level with a full bathroom and walk-in closets. On the upper level, a large landing with transom windows and a view to the pastures serves as a home office for the bustling honeybee farm. Two additional bedrooms and shared bathroom complete the upstairs living area. A cohesive design with nostalgic and traditional flair makes the new home feel storied and enduring—proving that authentic farmhouse design never goes out of style.
